Amazon (US) to open new delivery station in Flanders

Once the new delivery station is operational, packages will be shipped there from the existing European fulfillment and sortation centers. Robert Viegers, director at Amazon Logistics Europe, emphasized that bpost, Belgium’s leading postal operator and e-commerce logistics provider for the Benelux, Europe, North America and Asia, remains an important partner.
Amazon has established trusted relationships with carriers operating in Flanders and we will continue working closely with them in the future.
Local is the new global
By investing locally and thereby working closer to the customer, Amazon believes it can handle larger quantities of packages in a more efficient way.
We are committed to delivering efficiently to customers and creating hundreds of jobs in the regions where we operate.
There will also be a focus on sustainability. The new building in Flanders will be BREEAM-certified in terms of energy efficiency, as part of Amazon’s commitment to be completely carbon neutral by 2040. To achieve this, the building is equipped with an intelligent system for heating, ventilation and air conditioning, solar panels, LED lighting and a water-drainage network.
Quickly delivered: over 50 new jobs
The site will start operations by the end of 2022, creating over 50 direct jobs for the management team and sortation associates working within the delivery station. In addition, the site will create indirect opportunities for more than 200 drivers working for local delivery companies, who will collect parcels from the station and deliver them to Amazon customers in the Antwerp region.
Amazon is not the only foreign e-commerce player to open local warehouses in Flanders. German meal box supplier HelloFresh already has five local depots. Meanwhile, Dutch e-commerce company Coolblue has several physical stores in the region.
