  • Invest in Flanders
Flanders’ life sciences & health ecosystem continues to convince international companies of its strengths. Labcorp, a global leader in diagnostics and drug development headquartered in the US, has announced a new investment project at its European Operations Center in Mechelen (Flanders). What’s in the works? Labcorp will be expanding its automated clinical trial kit production line at the site.

From Flanders to EMEA in no time

Once the expansion project is completed, Labcorp’s Flanders-based site will be capable of producing clinical trial test kits for over 70 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). That’s more than twice as many as today! For reference, the Mechelen site served 27 markets in 2021.

“The added capacity supports our customers’ needs for faster, more convenient clinical trial testing and delivery across the EMEA region,” comments Jonathan DiVincenzo, president of the Clinical Trial Testing Solutions group at Labcorp Drug Development. “As we build up our capabilities in Flanders, researchers will experience more flexibility in ordering and turnaround times.”

1.1 million and counting

The site of action is Labcorp Drug Development’s European Operations Center in Mechelen, which opened in March 2021. Since then, the multi-use facility has produced over 1.1 million trial kits, which are used across Europe to support clinical studies in oncology, diabetes, kidney disease, autoimmune conditions and more. This only adds to Flanders’ clinical trial and study credentials. Did you know, for instance, that the region has one of the world’s fastest clinical trial procedures and ranks in the European top 3 for clinical trials per capita

In addition to the production of clinical trial kits, the Flanders-based Labcorp site is also responsible for clinical study logistics and support as well as dry ice production and distribution

The European Operations Center in Flanders expands Labcorp Central Laboratory Services' capacity and supports future growth, providing additional flexibility in the event of disruptions or unexpected surges in demand.
