Air Liquide builds ammonia-hydrogen pilot plant in Flanders
New and efficient process
The new pilot plant in Flanders, which combines a new, efficient process with Air Liquide’s proprietary technologies, is planned to be fully operational in 2024. The government of Flanders – through Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO) – has confirmed financial support to the project.
Mastering hydrogen in all its facets
With the ammonia cracking technology, Air Liquide will contribute to the development of hydrogen as a key enabler of the energy transition. For over 60 years, the French multinational corporation has mastered hydrogen in all its facets, from production, transport, storage and distribution to its final usages. Within the context of its ADVANCE strategic plan, Air Liquide is committed to investing globally approximately EUR 8 billion in the low-carbon hydrogen value chain by 2035.
Ammonia cracking complements Air Liquide's thorough portfolio of hydrogen tech and adds yet another technological solution to enable the development of a hydrogen global market. We are committed to making hydrogen a key element in the energy transition, and we are grateful for Flanders' government support to this project.
Stepping stone
The ammonia cracking pilot plant in Antwerp will serve as a stepping stone toward a low-carbon hydrogen economy and contribute to the decarbonization of industry and mobility. Air Liquide’s innovative technology and expertise will play a crucial role in the development of a sustainable future.
