Belgium is saying farewell to its old embassy building in Tokyo with an eye-catching 4-day event called ‘old Embassy’. Belgian contemporary design, film, art, dance and music will be on display to promote Belgium’s renowned creativity. The current embassy building will disappear to make room for a brand-new high-rise building. The works for this are set to begin in mid-November 2007. To commemorate 80 years of Belgian history at this location in the Japanese capital, the Belgian embassy in Tokyo has lined up an impressive list of Belgium’s creative ‘ambassadors’ for the event ‘old Embassy’. Designers of contemporary design furniture and products like Extremis, Domani, Sixinch, Jaga and Piet Stockmans will take part in an impressive exhibition. But this is not all… Fine examples of Belgian films, painting, photography, video, dance and music can be enjoyed as well. The 4 days of ‘open house’ from 30 October till 3 November at the old embassy will once again demonstrate that Belgium has a leadership position in a wide range of creative disciplines.
