GIGA Storage – a Dutch developer, investor and operator of large-scale energy storage systems – has announced the opening of a new office in Flanders. The company’s new base is situated at Agropolis Kinrooi, an innovative business incubator for sustainable and energy-efficient agriculture and horticulture.

Efficient energy storage

To accelerate the shift from gas and coal-fired power plants to sustainable and renewable energy production, GIGA Storage focuses on developing large-scale energy storage projects and enabling smart control using its own IT platform. Overall, the Dutch company strives to connect more renewable energy projects to a more efficiently used power grid.

In innovative company

At the Agropolis incubator in Flanders, the northern region of Belgium, GIGA Storage is giving concrete shape to its international ambitions. The Dutch company is joining an innovative business community that focuses on projects for enhanced sustainability and efficiency. GIGA Storage also announced that it is appointing Joeri Siborgs as general manager of the local GIGA Storage Belgium branch.

With Joeri Siborgs, the GIGA Storage Group chooses expertise from the local ecosystem with strong local roots and connections. We already have a solid project pipeline in Belgium and Flanders, and we expect to start taking the first concrete steps toward large-scale energy storage there as early as 2023.

Ruud Nijs
CEO of GIGA Storage

According to GIGA Storage, the new Flanders-based branch was established because the electricity markets of the Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) lend themselves perfectly to the energy transition. Meanwhile, Flanders’ energy ecosystem has been making headway in the areas of alternative energy sources and intelligent energy management from square one.
