Philips, the international electronics producer, has strengthened its facility at Bruges, Flanders, as a “business creation center” for the development of new-generation television sets – the lcd and plasma types, according to media reports. The move is related to a slimming down of operations at the company’s Knoxville, Tennessee, center. Some 550 people work at the Bruges facility, which is focused on research and development. A Philips spokesman says that demand for plasma television sets has risen fourfold and that for lcd televisions sevenfold.
