Supporting talent is the name of the game as the government of Flanders provides a budget of EUR 2 million for the development of Flanders Game Hub. There, both established and aspiring game developers will be able to come together to collaborate and exchange ideas.

Partners unite

Several organizations are joining forces for the development of Flanders Game Hub with the objective of having even more game companies successfully start and grow in Flanders. The main partner organizations involved are cocreation center Hangar K, Flanders’ gaming industry federation FLEGA, videogame incubator DAE Studios and Howest. The latter, one of Flanders’ university colleges, has achieved international acclaim for its chart-topping game design education program.

Flourishing sector

Flanders’ game industry has been growing for years. Between 2017 and 2020, for example, the number of Belgian game companies increased from 65 to 84, the majority of which are based in the country’s northern region of Flanders. Games are also gaining importance worldwide: over the past 4 years, the global turnover of the gaming industry increased by 52% to almost EUR 180 billion.

With the development of Flanders Game Hub, the government of Flanders wants to grow the game industry and encourage graduates with game-oriented degrees to choose to develop game and XR applications within the local ecosystem. The ultimate goal is to boost the structural growth and sustainability of Flanders’ game industry.
